Summary/Abstract: The work analyses scientific and literary works written at the turn of the XIX–XX centuries, which are devoted to the topic of child speech reflected in Chukovsky’s collection of articles “Malenkiye Deti” (“Little Children”). In this context the study considers the book as a preliminary to “From Two to Five”. The study suggests that this linguistic concept of childhood, which was rather popular in 1920s, had influenced Chukovsky’s ideas.
