Summary/Abstract: The problem of identity is one of the most actual in the contemporary world. Post-Soviet states like Ukraine feel it very deeply. That’s caused by different factors – political, historical, cultural, religious etc. During last decades Ukraine has restarted its state-building process which became the real struggle for independence at the first quarter of the 21st century. Different ideologies influence on the identity of Ukrainian citizens. And for our opinion, the course toward the European Union can be classified as a chance and also as a challenge to Ukraine. Why? That’s because there is not straight road toward European values. It’s not so easy to build the democratic state. The integration in the EU requires common efforts from nation to rebuild its state and society. And in circumstances of war and loss of territory, this way is really complicated.
