Summary/Abstract: This article is a follow-up of the author’s interest in the question of integration and the identity of the immigrant communities. It sheds light on the revolts which broke out in the poor suburbs of the big French cities in November 2005, taking part in which were mostly young people of immigrant stock. The causes underly¬ing these revolts - unemployment, discrimination, failures at school - problems to which the young people of immigrant stock are most sensitive, have been presented proceeding from the analyses of the European observers and analysts. Also consid¬ered has been the role of the family, of school, and of the street in the process of integration of the young people from the immigrant communities. Due attention has also been paid to the role of religion - in this case Islam - in the revolts. It has been of interest to the author how far the process and the models of integration, and the identity crisis of these young, second and third generation immigrants, have been playing a role in the outbreak of dissatisfaction, channeled into arson and other kinds of destructive behaviour. Four types of identity strategy of the rising generations of immigrant stock have been presented and it has been pointed out that the identity crisis in the teens has been underlying the choice of one of these strategies of integration. A concise review has also been made of the model of integration of the immigrant communities in some West European countries, as well as in the USA.
