Summary/Abstract: The condition of the intellectual under the totalitarian regime has been an intensely discussed topic among Western theorists, both before and after 1989. Assuming that, in Romania, critical thinking wasn't manifested by such specialists, this paper aims to discuss the theories of Monica Lovinescu, the leading female voice of Romanian exile, about the existing relations between the intellectual elite and the communist regime.
