The problem of borrowings in the discussions of the Transylvanian press in the 19th century

Summary/Abstract: Lexically speaking, five major themes sprang out from the arguments between the editors and the collaborators: the unification of the language, borrowings from other languages, the elimination of useless terms, the writing of a dictionary by the Romanian Academic Society and the publication of meanings and etymologies in order to master the meanings and the evolution of words.Solving the problem of borrowings brings about many arguments and points of view. We remarked various ways of solving this problem. Each and every intellectual agreed that borrowings are necessary. They also agreed that the enriching of the vocabulary must be done by means of borrowings, according to the specificity of our language.
