Summary/Abstract: This article aims at discussing the whether higher education can constitute a factor for economic growth. The approach is dual. Firstly considered are the endogenous growth models, with human capital, education in general and higher education in particular being determinants or enhancers of human capital. Secondly, the concept of capacity development plays a role in situating higher education in privileged position.
