Summary/Abstract: Systematic research of Komi place names has its origin in the 1970s, when special studies were published by V. Lytkin, B. Serebrennikov, etc. A special role belongs to A. Turkin, who spent 20 years travelling on expeditions through all important centres of the Komi land, collecting field material for his candidate’s dissertation (1971), his doctoral thesis (1989) and several dictionaries of place names.
