Creative Accounting Methods Used for Tangible Assets from the Point of View of Auditors

Summary/Abstract: The economic experts have different techniques to influence the information presented in the annual financial statements: to influence the results or to change the entity’s financial position. The most frequently used creative accounting techniques for tangible assets are the following: the applied amortization methods, treatment of impairment of tangible assets, the revaluation of the tangible assets, capitalization of subsequent expenditures after putting into use the tangible assets, respectively the treatment of development costs. The objective of this paper is to analyze the used creative accounting techniques based on professional experience of the auditors in Romania and Hungary. For this empirical study a questionnaire, as research technique, was used.
