Summary/Abstract: water is supplied to several tourist destinations on the Croatian coast. Previous researches have shown a direct link of this spring with sinking waters in the municipality of Ljubuški. It was assumed that Prud spring was recharged by Trebižat River, but the sinking zone was not defined. From a hydro-geological standpoint, recharge area of the Prud spring is situated in a limestone and dolomite region where Upper Cretaceous (K2) sediments dominate. In this sense, the entire unit under investigation (Trebižat River basin and Prud spring) is a powerful hydrogeological collector with cavernous-fracture porosity. It is an aquifer of striking karst characteristics where precipitations and surface water migrate through cracks and sinks, entering a highly complex underground system with water flowing through karst conduits of significant dimensions. The relatively rapid circulation of groundwater, often under pressure, allows the formation of powerful springs, at hypsometrically lower elevations, such as Prud spring, or a number of other springs within its catchment. These characteristics reflect the sensitivity of the basin of this spring and the possible negative impacts that may occur as a result of various anthropogenic factors.
