Summary/Abstract: The biographical, bibliographical and historiographical study in two parts is devoted to the life and scientific achievement of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marta Bur- Markovska, a fellow historian from the Institute of Balkan Studies at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, who died on November 8, 2012. Hungarian-born who graduated in Bulgaria where she later built her academic career and founded her family, M. Bur-Markovska was concerned with economic and cultural issues in the field of history in both countries with particular attention in this respect on the relations between the Balkans and Central Europe and the important mediating role of Balkan merchants. She also made popular the Hungarian history in Bulgaria as well as the Bulgarian and Balkan ones in Hungary. M. Bur assisted actively the scientific relations between the two countries by organizing and participating in scientific events. She translated works into Bulgarian from Hungarian and issued important historical sources. M. Bur taught at Sofia University and she carried out also some other activities. The study has paid a special attention to the creating process of her sole treatise providing space of the content, scientific contributions and the conclusions there, the thematic scope of her numerous research works as well as her role in the protection of cultural and historical heritage in Hungary and Bulgaria. A detailed bibliography of the researcher is applied and the biographical data about her are accompanied by photos from her personal albums.
