Summary/Abstract: The literary destiny of Georges Rodenbach is similar with that of his generation. Being disappointed by his fellow-country men reading-response concerning his artistic work, the writer takes refuge to Paris. This very distance makes him to get closer to the real world of his native place. The exile gives birth to a coherent artistic work that deals especially with a set of obsessive themes, such as: the city viewed as a character, the water, the bells, the tower, closely connected to the characters’ fate, where the artist rejected by society plays an important role. To sum up, we would like to underline the fact that our research refers, first of all, to his novel “Art in exile”, as well as a set of poems drawn from “The mirror of the native sky”, typical of his artistically and literary view.
