Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to emphasize the relationship between French and the national languages in Senegal. Our approach includes a synchronic analysis of some differences between the standard French and the Senegalese French, but also a study of the semantic and lexical variations, such as semantic expansion, lexical creation, and linguistic levels. Our conclusion is that the superposition of French and of the local languages in Senegal does not generate a conflictual situation: on the contrary, it is rewarding.
