Summary/Abstract: During the Second World War, Eastern Europe witnessed some of the most violent crimes against humanity: the extermination of two thirds of the Jewish population, in the well-known concentration camps, such as AuschwitzBirkenau. This article points out the horror of this tragedy, as experienced by two writers - Elie Wiesel and Ana Novac - both born in Transylvania and very young when they were deported together with their families. Their novels reveal the cruelty and the dispair of deportation and this is why the article points out the common aspects of the two stories, horrifying trips to the deepest resources of survival.
