Summary/Abstract: Discovered in 1997, the tell from Bucşani Pod (comm. Bucşani, Giurgiu County) is researched starting from 1998. These lines were occasioned by the analysis of the polished lithic inventory assemblage discovered in the last level of occupation (Gumelniţa B1), analysed in a proportion of 85%. The bayesian model of the statistic distribution of the modeled radiocarbon data indicates for the beginning of superior level, the interval 4283- 4122 BC (mean 4224 BC), and for the end of the occupation, the interval 4253-4077 BC (mean 4185 BC). Planimetric distribution of polished lithic material within the inhabited area of the tell and the archaeological contexts indicate the favorite deposition areas, having chronological implications: M1 – deposition in foundation trenches of the palisade and under the dike/vallum of the settlement; M2 – deposition in the effective period of living (areas outside the constructions); M3 – the last moment of using of the interior of buildings; M4 – deposition post firing. The entire inventory (included in the catalog) contains 246 pieces, grouped into several categories typological- functional – chisels, large chisel, axes, polishers, grinders, crusher-grinders, crushers and grinding stones. All these have been analyzed, including the petrographic point of view. It was identified a large petrographic variety, genetic attributed to sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks. It is one of the largest assemblages of polished lithic material in Gumelniţa cultural environment, representing a coherent entirety. It is not to be excluded that we have to do with a “three gestures symbolic sum” – after fragmentation, one part was deposited, another part was kept (for the same purpose but for a different moment) and, finally, a third part was abandoned.
