Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present paper is to discuss about Lucian Blaga’s contribution to the understanding of the Romanian culture and civilization by emphasizing the specific atemporal values of the Romanian spirituality. Although influenced by the newest literary trends of the age, Lucian Blaga went back to the deep structures of the Romanian national identity following one of the most innovative European artistic movements, the Expressionism. In his philosophic essays, the poet identifies the constants of the collective unconsciousness that influences the style of a national culture and applies his theory by analysing the features of the Romanian culture. He explains the opposition between the concepts of major and minor culture, advancing the idea that a minor culture, like the Romanian one, can become the basis of original major creations.
