Summary/Abstract: Consistent with its tendency towards undermining canonical issues, postmodernism launches an attack on the concept of the traditional hero, removing thus the latter from the pedestal founded by classic texts. Perceived as an inventory of identities, none of which gets precedence over the other, the postmodern anti-hero becomes thus just an instance of the fragmentariness and multiplicity of the contemporary world. The merit of “canonical” postmodernist texts, as the paper underlines, is that of finding relevance and value even in the case of such anti-heroes ,perfectly attuned to an ever shifting world.
