Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the measuring of the effectiveness of legal rules. There has been and is being taken steps so far in three dimensions: on the ground of law-making, in the sphere of application of law, and with respect to legal consciousness. The first part of our study shows the gauging of the effectiveness of law-making in some fields, from the experiment related Donald Campbell and Laurence Ross to Carbonnier’s opinion about measuring the effectiveness of criminal law. The second part of the paper demonstrates the gauging of the effectiveness of judicial application of law. Last but not least, the third part of the study is the gauging of the effectiveness of legal consciousness and in connection with it, we are submitting the so-called Chicago examination and Barna Horváth’s survey on people’s acceptance of the newly introduced legal rules.
