Stylistic devices as means of linguistic manipulation (as exemplified by the Ukrainian conflict)

Summary/Abstract: The main objective of this research is to identify the major stylistic devices of linguistic manipulation in Polish articles, mostly dedicated to the major world events of the last decade – “Euromaidan”. The empirical base of the research consists of the articles of the publication “Wprost” with different ways of characterizing the crucial political events that took place from November 2013 to February 2014. The theoretical significance of the study is to form the ground for the study of the phenomenon of linguistic manipulation in the search for the specific use of stylistic devices in communication policy issue. The practical significance of the study is the fact that the results of this research can be used to assess the functioning of the text in articles, as well as for the linguistic analysis of the impact of media publications. The scientific novelty of the researchis related to the review and analysis of a new, previously unexplored aspect of the problem of linguistic manipulation – the use of stylistic devices as tools for linguistic manipulation in the contemporary Polishpress editions. The main method used in the article is a diagnostic survey. The main research technique used for the study is the linguistic, textual analysis of the articles. The total volume of work consists of 11 pages. When writing the article there have been consulted textbooks, numerous monographs, articles, and plentifulonline resources.
