Summary/Abstract: The article follows and defines the permanent (codified) and flexible characteristics of the artistic elite and the places for public communication from the final days of socialism and the two postsocialistic decades. The following questions are asked: What is happening with the intellectuals? What kind of transformation are they going through? Will they be public figures again? Are 232 we going to see, hear, read from the same persons or new ones will gain legitimacy? Who and how can achieve this legitimacy? What kind of “new” intellectuals are we going to see and what will they tell us? Will they be the younger well-known ones, famous during the late socialism and the beginning of the post-socialism or will they be completely different people? What kind of morals and ideas will they proclaim? The repressions of the government (in general) are accentuated as a factor that legitimizes the intellectuals. The conclusion states that the process of legitimacy of new intellectuals is not finished yet, as well as the public space is not fully democratic.
