The Museology of Books in Poland – Theoretical Considerations and the Reality. A Bibliological Research Appraisal

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the opinions of researchers, definitions and functions of museums in Polish scholarly literature and emphasises the significance of museum institutions in the process of preserving the cultural heritage of people. Special emphasis is put on the problems associated with the book as a peculiar museum object. The appraisal-related analysis covers not only state museums of books but also private initiatives of collectors.
