Summary/Abstract: The Croatian archives service is part of the European archives service and in its concept and development. We consider it necessary:Create a management system for archives that will integrate the records management and archive management functions, which will provide archival material protection as a cultural good and provide "memory" of the present time for future generations with expert guidance, standards and supervision;Provide a sufficient number of professional staff in scriptwriters and archives, who will be appropriately trained and educated for the demanding work of document management and process management and archive functions;Provide space for the protection of archival material as a fundamental prerequisite for the development of archival service. The decision was made for the first time during the Second World War (the "Palace of the Croatian National Archives"), and the Decision on the participation of SRH in financing the construction of four major cultural objects of national significance, including HDA (1971), and the Final Act of 1995 Which emphasizes the need to build a new HDA building. Along with the burning building of the HDA, the local government and self-government units remain in the obligation in cooperation with the central state administration for providing space for regional state archives.A sophisticated modern archival service will ensure that our society does not fall into the amnesia losing memory. This service is a prerequisite for building a democratic society and a legal state. In such a society, everyone has the right to information, and duly guided papers ensure the transparency of state administration and the rule of law. Finally, archivists are guardians of memory. And I will finish with the words of Canadian archivist Barbara Craig: "If you have nothing to look backwards with pride, you have nothing to look forward to with hope."
