Summary/Abstract: The stronghold in Konopnica has long raised the interest of many researchers, but besides sur- faces researches, only J. Kamińska conducted excavations on the earthwork castle in 1964. Since that time, over 50 years knowledge of the object has not changed, and the time of its use on the basis of the results of researches and analysis of written sources was described variously in the range from the early Middle Ages to the modern period. Several new facts brought archaeologi- cal explorations from 2016, the results of which were presented in this article. The aim of the researches was to determine the geological structure of the object and determine the degree of human intervention in the natural form of the land. For this purpose they were made 8 wellbores and 2 excavations (in the moat I and on the crown of the rampart I) with total area of 12,1 m2 . On their basis it was stated that the object is a natural, high bank of the river, created with the layers of clay and clay mixed with sand. Few traces related to the transformation of the object by a man were recorded in wellbores No. 1-2 located on the plateau and in the wellbore No. 7 and excavation No. 2, located on the crown rampart I.
