The use of acoustic screens indoors

Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the use of acoustic screens in rooms. They are used to partially enclose or cover a noise source, to provide an obstacle to noise coming directly from a noise source to a workstation, to divide a room into acoustically separated parts and to increase sound absorption in a room. This article discusses acoustic parameters that determine the effectiveness of acoustic screens and establishes the relationship between the sound absorption class of materials and sound absorption coefficient α. It presents a sample calculation of how the use of acoustic screens reduces A-weighted sound pressure level and it presents general acoustical recommendations for the use of acoustic screens in rooms.
