Summary/Abstract: For more than half a century Serbia (without the province Kosovo and Metohija) is facing the birth level under the need of simple replacement of generations. A phenomenon of insufficient birth in our mileu is followed by the predominantly traditional birth control, which includes the resorting to abortion when, for different reasons, pregnancy cannot or will not be accepted. Is it real to expect the changes in the model of planing the family in Serbia in the forseeable future? In this paper, the answer to this question was sought in three ways. First, by analyzing a long-term trend of indicators of the planing of family and its characteristics. In parallel to that, we established the condition and range of the policies relevant for the planing of family, above all population policy and the health protection policy. At the same time, due to the impossibility to carry out a representative survey related to the determination of youth, relevant to the planing of the family, we presented the attitudes of the female students of the Medical school, Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Political Sciences, related to birth and the usage of efficien contraception, which are relevant for the planing of the family. After perceiving the task from all three angles, it seems like there is no dilemma that there is no room for a different expectation of the reproductive behaviour in Serbia in the forseeable future. The features of the factors which determine the participation of the population and forms of the birth control, including the political response, don’t contribute to the positive changed, especially not quickly. In order for Serbia to be characterized by different model of planing the family, a building of the reproductive consciousness is required, both individual and political.
