Summary/Abstract: Globally, short animations have strongly limited demand on the markets relying for the most part on festival audiences, occasional TV broadcasts and websites. But then again, feature film markets are dominated by Hollywood productions (by Disney Studios, Pixar, etc.). The article focuses on European auteur feature animation, which succeeds both in shaping new models and achieving a theatrical release. Alternative authorial approaches are under consideration based on a new type of problematics, dramaturgic structuring and quests for styles. Particular attention is devoted to the feature animated film from the former Soviet bloc countries as well as on a selection of examples of the Western European film practice of the last two decades.
