Summary/Abstract: The article traces out the connection between traditional Chinese painting, animation and the new visual forms, belonging to the digital technologies such as mapping, searching for interfaces between aesthetic methods and styles, established over the centuries and brought to life in the art of animation both by Chinese and Western authors. The emphasis is put on the terminology and the different views underpinning Chinese art practices and on the topic of continuity of and the interplay between art traditions and the new arts. The task to take the right approach to screen arts is further complicated by focusing on China alone. This article gives a broad outline of the intensive process of contaminations of the East and the West in the area of animation going well beyond the limites ‘China’s Great Wall’.
