Certain peculiarities of the geography study programme for preparation of students for future professional activities

Summary/Abstract: The university studies are one of the most significant links of education system which makes quite a big influence to the people and to the society. So the underlying strategic objective for university community is improvement of the study quality emphasizing cooperation, the importance of developing the abilities of critical thinking what determine further studies and successful career. The university studies are closely related to harmony of intellectual, emotional and spiritual development, understanding of practical circumstances and ability to ensure the value and significance of the knowledge. The university studies are related to adaptation in the university, chosen study programme which determines further preparation for professional career. This is evidenced by the evolution of the student chosen study programme, self-critical assessment of preparation for future profession. The analysis was based on assessing the duration of student‘s individual work, creativity, defending and evolution. The analysis of the geography study programme showed that the preparation of students for future professional career is of high pedagogical and physiological level. It allows ensuring competitive preparation of geography teachers. The conclusions at the end of the article highlight not only positive aspects, which are oriented to the quality of professional preparation and its development, but also the negative sides which slow down the speed and quality of the preparation process. Summarising certain peculiarities of preparation of geography studies programme, it is important to mention that most of the respondents are planning to work as teachers, study master‘s degree and extend further geographer‘s knowledge.
