Summary/Abstract: Homily is one kind of sermons. Biblical ideas are being explained in the those texts. In the book of reminiscences about Cardinal V. Sladkevicius there are published 62 texts written by Cardinal himself. They are homilies. A homilies is a text of appeal hence the relation betweeen the addresser and the addressee is always distinct. The addresser is always evident for he is the preacher. He is preaching to the people in a concrete place at a definite time. The addressee of the homily is a group of people listening to the sermon. The addressee is active whose reaction to the text could initiate different features that had not been thought of by the addresser ad first. All the texts of homilies of V. Sladkevicius have one important features the addresser identifies himself as an addressee showing it with the help of pronoun "we" or certain forms of the verb. Sometimes it is emphasized adding some words. Very seldom the form "we" does not indicate the addresser being a member of the addressee's community and separates from it. In these cases we indicates the clergy. Sometimes the addresser is speaking on behalf of "aš" ("I"). This happens in two cases: 1) when personal experience is taken into consideration ; 2) when the addressee is encouraged to feel as if it is being said in his name. The main feature of the texts having an appeal is their impact on the listeners' will, calling to think about their intentions, to undertake or to give up some activity. Very frequently those texts are imperative using different forms of the second person. In the homilies of Cardinal V. Sladkevicius there are not many places where the addressee is being urged directly. Usually this urge is hidden in the plural forms of the first person. And it is not indicated what the addressee should do or shoudn't do but it is shown what is compulsory for the whole community so to the addressee as well. It is very seldom that the addresee is urged to behave as a separate . Sometimes it seems that the addressee is a person appointed by community. Nevertheless this relation could be considered a rhetorical figure including some generalization of a person.
