Summary/Abstract: The Madách Bookhouse and Saloon was recommended to the world-famous Hungarian Herend Porcelain Manufactory in a letter by János Esterházy in1942. In the following two years a strong and well-functioning business relationship developed between the Saloon and the Manufactory, so that the Madách Saloon became the leading sales representation of the Herend porcelain in Slovakia. Thanks to the preserved correspondence dossier of the Herend Porcelain Manufacture, we can have an insight not only into the financial transactions between the two businesses, but also into the cultural and business philosophy of the Madách Saloon and of its manager, Elemér Somos. This business correspondence offers us an opportunity to learn about the day-to-day life of one of the most important institutions of the Hungarian community in Slovakia at the time.
