Summary/Abstract: Analysis of the conceptual evolution and main characteristics of contemporary approaches to the international security phenomenon, with all interpretative diversity of theoretical “landscape” from World War II till present, allowing more adequate assessment of principle implicit and explicit dimensions of relationship between security theory and security practice. Critical identifying of the problematic zone of the aforementioned relationship will, on the one hand, show the potential guidelines for a new understanding of security in the era of globalization (conceptual departure from the state as only referent object of security studies), and, on the other hand, allow more precise strategic landmarks definition of Serbian security agenda on the domestic, regional and international level.
