Summary/Abstract: The Republic of Antigua and Barbuda (442 sq km) was the English colony, and then the state associated with the United Kingdom. Currently, it is a part of the British Commonwealth. The republic is also the Latin-American country. The Authors considers the following issues: to what extent the constitutional institutions of the state are based on the structures inherited from the British system, which features are characteristic for the countries of Commonwealth, to what extend the threads drawn from the tradition of the Latin American political system can be recognized. The analysis of the political position of the main authorities of the Republic leads to the conclusion that the Constitution of the Republic of Antigua and Barbuda has adopted patterns derived from traditional British political system and features typical for other countries of the British Commonwealth. But they do not cover the range of all constitutional institutions, which are complemented by solutions typical for Latin republics closer to the civilization and culture of Creoles, who cover more than 70 000 inhabitants of the Republic.
