Summary/Abstract: The author presents a person of Hans Kudlich (1823—1917), a symbol for the Czech, Moravia and Silesia Germans who perceived him as an advocate of views combining democratic assumptions with a strong German nationalism. He presents the opinions voiced by Kudlich in which a German culture was superior also in the society covering other nations (they were to be linked with it). The author describes Kudlich’s most important achievements (among others engagement in the improvement of peasants‘ position in the area oft he Habsbourg monarchy, as well as a battle in favour of the realization of the idea of the so called Great Germany), and a propaganda role he played in the history of Germany and, above all, Germans from the Sudetes.
