Some of the Expression Aspects of Position in Space in German and Lithuanian (Verbs liegen and gulėti)

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to define expression similarities and differences of level position in space in German and Lithuanian referring to the distribution of verbs liegen and gulėti. The research material is taken from German and Lithuanian explanatory dictionaries and electronic texts (http://donelaitis.vdu.lt and http://wortschatz.uni-leipzig.de). A general valency pattern Nom Adv Loc [P L] is specific to the verbs liegen and gulėti. Patient and locative that are specific to the aforementioned verbs are analysed in this article. The distributive analysis showed that level position in space expressed by the verbs liegen and gulėti is comprehended differently in German and Lithuanian that is why the aforementioned verbs can be considered equivalent only in part.
