Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of the political role and tasks of the Senate of the Republic of Poland in relation to the process of Polish integration with the European Union. The starting point for this considerations is the change of the relationship between legislative and executive authorities in connection with the transposition of EU law into the Polish legal system and the law-making process at the European Union level. As a consequence a new political function of the legislative and the executive authorities has appeared - the European function. In the case of the Polish Senate it is in fact an element of the legislative (unction of the Second Chamber of the Parliament. At the same time some legislative competences, which previously belonged to legislative power and its institutions, have been transferred to the Council of Ministers. As a result of European integration the shift of law making competences can be observed from the legislature to the executive (the Council of Ministers).
