Summary/Abstract: This study evaluates the course books for teaching Turkish as a foreign language based on teacher opinions. The study is restricted to the three course books of Yeni Hitit Turkish course book series used by Ankara University Turkish and Foreign Languages Application and Research Centre (TOMER). In order to collect teachers’ opinions related to Yeni Hitit course books, a questionnaire was developed by the researchers, and administered to 32 Turkish instructors working in the two branches of TOMER in Ankara. This questionnaire was composed of 40 questions divided into the categories of visual quality, content, units, texts and activities. The questionnaire included a part in the end where the instructors could explain their opinions related to the course books. The collected data was analyzed as percentage (%) and frequency (f) using SPSS 15 package program. The findings revealed that Yeni Hitit course books were sufficient in terms of visual quality, and the visuals were coherent with the texts; that the texts were coherent with the unit themes, and were capable of developing learners’ vocabulary knowledge, but the texts were sufficient in terms of promoting Turkish culture and literature; and that the course books were focused on both the grammatical competence and the development of basic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing).
