Summary/Abstract: Following the premise that "the axiological factor is a stable component in all langague use" (Michał Głowiński), the author attempts to show how values shape the construction of the worldview entertained by the subject experiencing and conceptualizing reality. In focus is not only language as an evaluating tool but above all as the source of information about the values cherished by a given linguistic and cultural community. Attention is drawn to semantic analyses of value names, to valuation behind the stereotypes of nationalities and professions, as well as in spatial names. Particular values and their systems underlie different ways of understanding the concept of homeland: in the national, regional, state or cultural sense. Values and valuations do not constitute an addition to meaning, isolable as "evaluative connotations"; on the contrary - an implied system of values serves as the basis for the whole process of linguistic categorization; for example, idetification of functional categories such as 'weeds', 'corn', 'medical herbs, 'toys' etc., is based on set of anthropologically understood utilitarian values.
