Summary/Abstract: There is an exceptional status ascribed to psychological verbs in the argument structure literature in terms of the mapping of their arguments onto syntactic positions. Apart from the syntactic and semantic explanations, there has been a great body of literature as to the aspectual differences between the two distinct classes of psychological verbs. In this study, first, the aspectual approaches to psychological verbs are briefly summarized and then the psychological verbs in Turkish are analyzed with comparison to the observed regularities in these approaches. The aim is to clearly define the aspectual properties of the psychological verbs in Turkish on the basis of the prototypical verbs in the classification proposed in İbe (2004). The analysis shows that a revision is needed in the traditional situation types and aspectual verb classifications if psychological verbs are not to be excluded.
