Summary/Abstract: In most West European countries, the 1970s witnessed the beginnings of Green movements and an ecological conscience. In Hungary, environment protection was simply not on the agenda. Here, documentary film-makers were taking on major and politically sensitive social problems, such as poverty and the Roma issue. The 1980s saw the appearance of historical documentaries, exploring subjects that had been hitherto taboo.
