Summary/Abstract: The article is written within investigations of ‘urban text’ in the Russian literature. Takingnotice of the common aspect of the city ‘demonization’ in works of the writers that belong to symbolist school, the authors bring forth the issue related to description of the value and functional role that certain loci selected from a common urban space have. The urban loci determined in the works by V.Ya. Brusov, K.D. Balmont, I.F. Annensky, A.A.Blok, Andrei Bely are more often turned to be the heart of the infernal origin (restaurant, whorehouse, ball,masquerade, gambling house, factory). The structural and plot features that make a particular locus to be demonized are described by the example of the ‘restaurant’ locus. In summary of the article the issue of sources and traditions related to restaurant ‘demonization’ by the Russian symbolists is set forth.
