Summary/Abstract: Astroll by the head of state was all it took for the government to back out of a decision that had been almost ten years in the making. At the end of 2005, in a move taking many by surprise, they abandoned the plans to locate one of three military radar installations on the hilltop originally selected. The decision created an embarrassing situation, since NATO had already approved the plan, was covering nearly all the costs and had ordered equipment from Alenia Marconi Systems in Italy. [...]
