Summary/Abstract: State social policy should take into account the subsidiary nature of assistancefrom public authorities in relation to the activity of the interested parties in their eff orts to fi ndand pursue work.Social assistance supports individuals and families in their eff orts to meet the necessaryneeds and enables them to live in conditions which conform to human dignity. Th is aim isachieved by preventing insurmountable, diffi cult life situations when an individual in a crisissituation ceases to be self-suffi cient. A classifi ed form of this diffi cult situation is the case ofindividuals (families) who are on the verge of social exclusion. For it is the category of “socialsafety” that accommodates those allowances that are directed at individuals (families) being ina particularly diffi cult situation, and their function is to prevent the deprivation of needs.Th e group of social safety benefi ts singled out in this study constitutes a sub-category ofsocial assistance benefi ts. Providing social safety is implemented with the use of a directory ofservices of diff erent specifi cs, roles and functions
