Summary/Abstract: The article represents a sketch about the life and work of not so widely known poet Roal’d Charl’sovich Mandel’shtam (1932–1961), one of those who is considered to be the father of the Russian poetic underground. His creative work is remarkably infl uenced by the Silver Age culture, and his unique poetry is marked by the liberal combination of lyricism and tragic character, heroic spirit and subtle irony.
