Of the history of Polish-Ukrainian relations in the musical circles of Lviv University during the first three decades of the twentieth century

Summary/Abstract: The subject matter of this paper focuses on the relations between Adolf Chybiński, a outstanding Polish musicologist and head of the Department of Musicology of the University of Lviv and his Ukrainian students and co-workers. The basis for the study is constituted by: the correspondence, official documents and personal recollections. These sources give evidence of tolerance, mutual respect and understanding even at a time of the sharpest international conflicts. With a closer personified look into the history, we can see that the Polish-Ukrainian past was multidimensional and intricate, and at an intellectual, cultural and artistic level there were far more common points than it is generally believed nowadays.
