Summary/Abstract: On the competence of forensic experts. Different countries have different criteria to accept forensic expert in handwriting. It is anyway difficult to verify their moral, personal and professional quality. The problem resides mostly in how to control their personal and professional competences, acquired before and after their inscription on the expert lists. As a “person of special skills” the forensic expert is bound to bring through his findings a significant result in reflecting the truth by the judicial process. Titles and professional diplomas are not always reflecting the expert’s adequate role in the investigation. It is absolutely necessary in today’s scientific evolution to keep one’s level of preparation up-to-date.
