Summary/Abstract: The exchange relationship dissolution could be caused by several factors or events, while the success of relationship should usually reinforce the mutual commitment between partners. This study shows why partners can perceive the need for a change even in win-win situations. The impact of success to the relationship continuation is intermediated by the shift in partners’ bargaining power. Unbalanced distribution of relational gains could be interpreted as fair or unfair. In case of perceived unfairness the ability to initiate change will depend on parties’ bargaining power. This power could be increased by external factors or paradoxically by relational transfers from partner. Dissolution could be viewed as one outcome of the relationship change process. The empirical evidence from case studies suggests that the success of relationship is likely to increase the power struggle between partners and, thus might lead to the dissolution.
