Summary/Abstract: This paper aims at pointing out the reaches of interpretive sociological approaches of communicology, i.e. those theoretical approaches, models and theories that explain communication from the standpoint of norms and other patterns, along with their interpretation by the communication participants. Major attention has been given to the work of Erving Goffman and his interpretive and dramaturgical model. The process of communication is observed as an explicitly social phenomenon, its occurrence actually being a manifestation of society and its influence on the individual, which through the interiorization of norms allows understanding and interpretation of others and acting of the individual, accordingly. This process is observed from the standpoint of society as a whole and an individual as its member.
