Summary/Abstract: The study centres on the instruction of the two Forewords written by Richard Strauss to his opera Intermezzo to achieve perfect text understanding. The obvious reason writing that, during orchestral or operatic performance, one cannot understand the words as expressed by the singers. The composer first resolves this problem in Intermezzo, which I can appreciate both as an opera singer and as an orchestral musician.
