DIANA SANCTA POTENTISSIMA AND THE MAURS FROM MICIA

Summary/Abstract: The article brings back into discussion an old inscription from Micia. The inscription reads Dianae/ Sanctae/ Potent(isimae)/ Num(erus) M(aurorum)/ v(otum) s(olvit). Our interpretation changes the entire meaning of previous lectures, by reading Potentisima instead of Potentinus, and Numerus maurorum instead of Magnus, V A M (?) or Numularius. We also argue that the find spot is the auxilliary camp/vicus of Micia instead of colonia Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa.
