Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to study the images of 19th and 20th century sculptors, painters, musicians, actors and circus artists who were created by Alexander Kuprin. The author draws attention to the fact that Kuprin holds persons of real talent, devoted to art and respecting their work, in great esteem. In his analysis of the lot of talented artists Kuprin perceives the destructive influence which a society, constructed on the power which money wields, can exert on their moral attitudes. With that principle as his starting point Kuprin frequently describes his artists in a grotesque manner showing them as they should not be. A sense of irony is omnipresent in all his stories.
