Summary/Abstract: The Year 1848 - The First Steps Towards the European Integration. The present paper deals with the general matters related to the assertion of the Romanian people against the background of the revolutionary events at the middle of the previous century (1848-1849). The contemporaries have named that historical period "the time of Romania's revival", similar to the Italian "Risorgimento". It was the time when modern Romania was actually born. The author analyzed the Romanian '48 moment within the framework of the general European movements by taking into consideration the projects of reform and modernization of the state and society, the outcome of the revolution and the measures taken in the following period. The politicians and intellectuals from the Danubian Principalities as well as those from the Transylvanian Principality kept in touch with the great European leaders at the middle of the 19th century; accordingly, we one may conclude that those were the Romanians' first remarkable steps towards the European integration.
